MLK Day of Wellness: 2010
- Best Foot Forward

January 18, 2010 -Each
AmeriCorps Keep Austin Housed member participated in
the Day of Wellness planning and implementation
process. We reached more than 400 individuals who
are experiencing homelessness. Services included
distribution of physical items (800 pairs of shoes,
200 back packs, 800 pairs of socks), haircuts,
herbal medicine information, C.A.R.E. HIV
screenings, individual case management, Seton Foot
Clinic, speech & hearing screenings, and benefits
enrollment.
The day also included
entertainment from several community activists and
spoken word poets. Mobile Loaves and Fishes provided
a warm meal and there was a lot of community
building between those that attended and our more
than 100 volunteers!
Great job Keep Austin Housed!
Thank you to the leadership of Kim Jinorio (09-10)
and Jordan Canas (09-10).

January 2008: MLK Day of Wellness
Keep Austin Housed AmeriCorps members planned and
implemented a 1st Annual Day of Wellness
in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. To honor
Dr. King's legacy of addressing social injustices
and challenges within his community, The Day of
Wellness was created to bring together resources to
promote health and well-being for homeless
individuals in the Austin community. The AmeriCorps
members provided various services to over 350 people including: a foot
care clinic, hair cuts, clothing/shoe closet, resource table,
food and entertainment.
Keye TV attended the event. Their story highlights
the important work that this AmeriCorps group
provided in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The
